Behind the name SETSUOHANAKO are two people: SETSUO and HANAKO.
Two lives, one evolving body of work.
SETSUO began his creative life as a fashion photographer in Tokyo. During a visit to Paris connected to the possibility of working in Europe, his attention shifted increasingly towards art. After returning to Japan, he produced original artworks for several years before stepping away from painting for a period.
Across the years that followed, HANAKO became deeply involved in the making process. Her technical decisions, handling of materials and direct involvement in production developed alongside SETSUO’s visual intuition and ideas.
Their ideas and hands-on making develop together through an ongoing exchange.

The form changed.
The way of seeing continued.
Their creative work also includes ELPISPANDORA, a separate project exploring audio cables as functional art objects.
The project was presented at an audio show in the United States and featured in a French audio publication.
